Cookeville, TN

Burgess Falls - Burgess Falls State Park

To me, this is one of the most impressive falls in the state of Tennessee and most accessible.  At just around a mile roundtrip, this is a fairly easy hike.  We have been here a couple of times and the falls have looked very different both times.  The first picture is definitely more water, but I love how you can see the rock and moss in the second.  You also pass a couple of other falls on the short hike to Burgess.  And when you arrive, the enormity of the gorge is truly breathtaking!  You can even hike down to the top of the falls - there are warning signs about how strenuous it is. I didn't think it was all that bad and my husband did it when we took him (he is not as much of a hiker as we are).
If you get the opportunity - there are local kayaking guides where you can paddle up to the bottom of the falls!  That one is on our bucket list!
