Linville Gorge, NC

North Carolina Hikes with a view!  Burke Co, NC

My sister and I took all 5  of our kids (ages 4-15) and hiked these three points in a day.  I wouldn't really recommend it, because we hustled up the last one and it was our favorite view at the top!  But it's totally do-able.  They are all pretty short hikes and they are close to each other in proximity.  Just know that the forest road is long, gravely and bumpy!  So if you only have 2 miles left and your GPS says 10 minutes, know that it is not lying!

The Chimneys

This was a really neat area.  We did not hike the extent of this one because it was VERY windy that day and one of those that could knock you off balance if you weren't careful.  This trail is a bit narrow in places and has some steep drop offs.  With the younger kids, it made us a bit nervous so we didn't stay long, but there were some great views!  It is around a 1.75 mile roundtrip hike.

Table Rock

From the same parking lot, but opposite side is Table Rock.  This hike had lots of rocks to climb and jump, but also something to consider when hiking.  Other than that, it was a fairly easy 1.5 mile hike with some stunning views.

Hawksbill Mountain

This is definitely the most challenging of the three and rated as "most difficult" on the trail signs.  It was the last one of the day and we were all feeling it by the time we got to the top (my sister even promised milk shakes to the kids to motivate them to finish), but the views did not disappoint.  I would definitely go back and spend more time here!  2.25 miles round trip - most all of it up hill.
