Brevard, NC

Waterfalls in Dupont Forest, Brevard, NC

Brevard, North Carolina is called "Land of Waterfalls" because there are so many here!  We love taking day trips to this area and seeing how many we can see in a day.  Many are very short hikes or even roadside.  I would highly recommend Kevin Adams' book about North Carolina waterfalls.  He has very detailed directions for how to get to trails and for the trails themselves.

Bridal Veil Falls

This is a relatively easy hike, just a little longer.  It's about 5 miles roundtrip, but mostly level, with gradual inclines on a gravel road.  You begin the hike from the upper High Falls parking area (which is what you should include for directions -otherwise, your GPS will try to take you a very long way around) and follow the very well marked trail.  You will always see other people as there are many different trails in this park, but Bridal Veil isn't as visited as High Falls, Triple Falls and Hooker Falls that are also there.

High Falls, Triple Falls

Both of these are pretty amazing falls and easily accessible.  To get to the base of both of these requires a few stairs and there is one significant hill you have to walk up to see the falls.  We usually park at the lower parking lot for Hooker Falls so that we can walk to that one and to these from the same spot.  In about 2 miles roundtrip you can see both of these and a covered bridge.  These are always crowded, so I would recommend not going on a weekend, if that is an option.  There is a large parking lot and restrooms available.

Hooker Falls

While not as impressive as the other falls in the park, this one is still worth the short hike to see it.  Just under a mile roundtrip gets you to the bottom of these falls.  I have seen several people play and swim in the water here.

Wintergreen Falls

This smaller fall is an easy 3 mile round trip hike.  You do have a little bit of climb over some rocks at the end to get to the actual falls - if you bear to the left, it's an easier path. It offers a great place to get in the water and walk right up to the falls - just be careful on the rock slope to the left of the falls because once you start sliding, you WILL end up in the water. Make sure you park in the large parking lot on your left when you're driving in and go to the left until you reach the trail.
